| Expansion of ICD3 In the 2nd half of 2009 some of the deep sea container ports in Cai Mep – Thi Vai area have come into stream, causing tough competition among ICDs in Ho Chi Minh City. Foreseeing such market trend, Gemadept has invested in the expansion of ICD3 belonging to Phuoc Long ICD Port so as to actively catch up the cargo flow from Cai Mep- Thi Vai ports to HCMC and maintain its sustainable development in this core business sector.
In port operation, location is a decisive factor for the success or failure of the business and ICD3 has met this important requirement. In an overall view, ICD3 is located in the heart of the most potential development quadrangle in Vietnam - the key southern economic area. In a narrower view, ICD3 is located on the main branch of Saigon River, not affected by tide and surrounded by many big industrial parks with easy road link to the national highway No. 1 and 51. Hence, ICD3 has a very important and convenient location to create linkage as well as to provide the perfect supply chain service between entrepreneurs in the southern key economic zones and the deep-sea container port system in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.

Beside the convenient location, on one hand ICD3 owns a large area of 12 ha, 6m draft to accommodate 2,000DWT vessel and 420m berth for handling 5 river ships at the same time. On the other hand, ICD3 has a complete infrastructure with modern equipment, dedicated staff of high experience and expertise. All of those factors have contributed to create the distinction of ICD3 in comparison with other ICDs in the region. Although ICD3 just officially came into operation in March 2009, it has achieved some initial successes when being chosen by global carriers comprising COSCO, KLINE, CMA-CGM, MISC, HYUNDAI, etc. as their reliable destination. ICD3 is considered one of the important projects in the development strategy of Gemadept Corporation.
