| Opening ceremony of Gemadept container liner service at Gemadept Dung Quat International Port In the morning of 22 October 2010, Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee and Gemadept Corporation solemnly held the opening ceremony of the new container liner service at Gemadept Dung Quat International Port.
At the ceremony, there were honorable attendance of Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh – Provincial Communist Party Secretary, Mr. Le Quang Thich – Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai People’s Committee and other leaders, former leaders of Quang Ngai People’s Committee, Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone, Management Board of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, Vietnam Maritime Administration, Gemadept Cooperation and representatives of enterprises in Dung Quat Economic Zone as well as in neighbouring areas. Correspondents from newspapers and televisions also attended and made reports of the event.
Gemadept Dung Quat International Port is one of the big seaports in Vietnam’s Central region. The port was completed first phase with a 160-meter-long wharf, a 100,000-square-meter yard capable of storing 6,000 containers. The port can receive ships up to 30,000 DWT. It is equipped with modern container handling equipment with two Liebherr CBB 32/40 cranes, specialised reach stackers and empty container handlers as well as a computerized terminal operation system linking online with all Gemadept’s fleet and ports in three regions of the Country. The port has complete infrastructure system and regularly trained staff which ensures the port’s capacity of 150,000 Teus per year.
The opening of Gemadept container liner service at Gemadept Dung Quat International Port marks an important milestone in cargo transhipment to/from Dung Quat Economic Zone and opens up the wide cargo trade between the region and other countries in the world. Since 22 October 2010, there will be a regular weekly voyage to/from Dung Quat International Port on a fixed schedule. The container vessel will be docked at Dung Quat port for cargo loading and unloading, then continue its voyage on Haiphong / Dang Nang / Dung Quat / Quy Nhon / Hochiminh / Singapore service. In Singapore, transhipment cargo will be loaded on mother vessels, ready to leave for big seaports in the world. Meanwhile, cargo from Japan, Korea, Hongkong and Taiwan will be transshipped to Dung Quat through Hai Phong port. At the beginning, Gemadept uses a suitable vessel of 600 TEU capacity on the service with the port stay period of 10 hours for cargo operation.
