| Saigon Cargo Service Corporation – A breakthrough in Vietnam market Having officially operated since Oct 05, 2010 the air cargo terminal of Saigon Cargo Service Corporation – SCSC (a company in which Gemadept is a co-investor and authorised operator) is expected to establish new standards in providing air cargo terminal service in Vietnam market.

In line with 5-7% GDP growth annually, Vietnam market of air cargo transport is endlessly expanding. The total air cargo volume in 2009 was approximately 220,000 tons with the average growth rate of 15% per annum. This actually shows the big potential of Vietnam market while at the same time raises the new requirement to Vietnam’s air cargo logistics facility which is currently in quite small scale.
Being started construction in May/2008 with the total investment of US$ 50 M, SCSC is a Joint Stock company comprising the Ministry of Defence, Southern Airports Corporation, Gemadept Corporation and a group of financial investors. Located on more than 14.3 ha area in Tan Son Nhat Airport, SCSC has two main divisions – The apron of 52,000 sqm capable to accommodate 3 Boeing 747-400F or 8 Boeing 737 and the warehouse area of 91,000 sqm with the 1st phase capacity of 200,000 tons/year and 350,000 tons/year for the 2nd phase.
New standards in providing air cargo terminal service in Vietnam market
As the member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), SCSC is invested with such comprehensive equipment system made in Germany, which is most up-to-date in the world and first time used in Vietnam, including a big size screening machine, an automatic stuffing/unstuffing system, new generation forklifts... In compliance with the modern and close process of management and service provision being automatically controlled via computers, SCSC has pushed the air cargo logistics service provision of Vietnam to international technology and standards.
There are 53 landside truck-docks
Targeting to be the leading enterprise in Vietnam and regional countries in the field of air cargo terminal service, SCSC is designed with the most severe technology requirements so as to provide customers with the convenient, safe and cost-saving services. In line with the management process mainly via modern and comprehensive computer system, SCSC has cut short the operation time to the minimum but still ensured the principles of airline safety and security.
From the large parking area with 400 standby lots and 53 truck-docks, cargo is moved and checked via the automatic roller conveyor before being stored in the warehouse consisting of 300 positions in the ETV rack system for whole pallet and ULD cargo, over 1.500 positions for loose cargo pallets and 150 positions (equivalent to 300 ULD-LD3) in the empty A/C pallet/container rack system for Airlines, etc. Here cargo will be classified and stored in separate areas for respective cargo such as live animals AVI, high value cargo VAL, or dangerous cargo DGR…
Thanks to its dedicated management and staff who are experienced in air cargo terminal industry, SCSC has attentively trained its staff in accordance with international standards by sending them to Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal for training and through a series of other training courses with leading experts from IATA, Lufthansa Airlines…
